Sage Technology’s ROCI helps keep an eye on lone workers

SAGE Technology says its Remote Operator Call In software is attracting Australia-wide interest as a solution for effective monitoring of remote or lone workers.

According to Sage Technology, ROCI was specifically developed for organisations with employees working alone in remote area, eliminating the need for companies making repeated calls to mobile phones to check on people working alone.

Earlier in June 2009, WorkSafe WA issued a reminder on the dangers of working alone.

Lone workers are issued with PDA telephones running Windows Mobile and with GPS. They log in via the software at the start of their shift or work period and are then reminded, via visual and audible alerts, of approaching check in times at predetermined intervals throughout their work day.

Checking in is done by tapping the PDA screen with a finger. If a check in is missed, the software’s monitoring feature automatically alerts nominated personnel. The inbuilt GPS will pinpoint the worker’s location to within five metres.

ROCI also provides emergency alert and emergency alert escalation via e-mail and SMS messaging to nominated monitoring contacts.

Sage Technology says ROCI places lone monitor communication in the hands of the lone worker and delivers passive management of a critical OHS issue, as action will only be required if a check-in is missed.
