SIEMENS has released the new 3SB3 series safety shutdown device.

The 3SB3 series was developed to ensure and maintain correct mechanical connections for emergency shut down systems.

In emergency shut down situations, once the mushroom head button is activated, a set of contacts are opened and the electrical supply to the system is disconnected, shutting down the machinery.

If the mechanical connection between the operator and the contact block is inadvertently severed, the shutdown does not occur and serious injury can ensue.

The 3SB3 series was designed to avoid such a situation. According to the manufacturer, it includes a normally open contact which is wired to a normally closed contact.

If the contact block becomes separated from the emergency stop operator, the normally open contact is tripped and shuts down the system.

The 3SB3 series complements emergency stop operators and is compatible with Siemens’ 3SB38 pushbutton enclosures.
