3M has launched its 3M Noise Indicator N1-100, which it claims will alert users to potentially dangerous noise levels while helping to identify areas where hearing protection should be worn.
Once the 3M Noise Indicator N1-100 is clipped to a shirt or jacket, its LED will deliver an indication when noise levels exceed a hazardous threshold.
According to 3M, red flashing LED indicates noise levels are equal to or above 85 dBA, which means hearing protection may be required.
Green flashing LED indicates noise levels are below 85 dBA, meaning hearing protection may not be necessary.
3M says its noise indicator uses a rechargeable battery which operates for up to 200 hours between charges.
The NI-100 can be used as a training tool within a noise management program and to help ensure workers know when and where hearing protection is required. Occupational hygienists and safety officers can also use it as a mapping tool to determine where noise studies are necessary.
