Zinc plant closed after fatality

XSTRATA has closed its Mount Isa mining plant after a 34-year-old worker died during a workplace accident.

According to the company, the incident occurred at 11:40am on 7 March 2008, at the access to the zinc filter plant.

The Mount Isa facility has been closed pending a police investigation.

The company says it has notified the employee’s family and was providing support to them and other employees.
