Youth@Work website to help SA young workers navigate work hazards

SA Industrial Relations Minister Paul Caica says the new Youth@Work website will provide young South Australian workers with answers about workplace safety, fair pay and conditions.

According to Minister Caica, young people with their relative lack of experience in the workplace are more vulnerable to exploitation and injury at work. The Youth@Work website will be a resource to arm young workers with the knowledge they need to look after themselves and their workmates.

Youth@Work will provide the young South Australian workers with ongoing information and advice on what safety systems should exist at work, how to ensure they receive their proper pay, conditions and entitlements, and what to do if they’re bullied or harassed.

The government project team which developed the website says it heard from students and young workers about their main concerns. An online survey uncovered many young people are unfamiliar with awards and enterprise agreements, confusion surrounding the illegal practice of ‘trial work’ and concerns over bullying or harassment.
