MACHINESAFE is holding a series of workshops on Australian Standard AS 4024.1-2006 “Safety of Machinery”.
The workshops will provide training on using the newly updated machine safety standard for Australia and New Zealand, AS 4024.1-2006, from members of the committee that redesigned it.
According to MachineSAFE, the practical workshops are suited for anyone who needs an in-depth understanding of machine and automation safety, including project engineers, machinery importers and suppliers, OHS professionals, electricians and maintenance engineers.
The workshop will explain risk assessments and the basic principles of AS 4024 and AS 62061 with free SIL calculator demo software. This will allow delegates to conduct risk assessments and control risks “so far as is reasonably practicable” in line with current OHS law and standards.
The workshop will also cover safety design, managing safety-related parts of control systems and validation, design of controls, interlocks and guarding, emergency stop design, and prevention of unexpected start-up.
The latest revision of the AS 4024.1-2006 also includes a section on ergonomics. The workshop will look at how to use human body measurements and anthropometric data to calculate correct distances, sizes of guards and openings.
The positioning of displays, control actuators and signals, indication marking and actuation is also explained.
The training will be provided by members of the AS 4024 committee, Frank Schrever and Ern Millard.
The workshops will take place at Perth on 14 October, north Sydney on 20 October, west Sydney on 21 October, and Moorabbin on 11 November 2009.
