WorkSafe Victoria warns against false safety publications

WORKSAFE Victoria is warning companies to be careful what they spend their safety budgets on, and be on the lookout for frauds.

According to WorkSafe Victoria, a Warrandyte builder was approached by someone seeking advertising in a ‘workplace safety manual’. Investigations found the publication might not exist.

WorkSafe Victoria says it gets a number of complaints each year about people selling advertising or other services, while claiming association with the workplace safety authority.

Such practices can undermine legitimate occupational health and safety magazines and publications, which are used by WorkSafe Victoria to get its safety messages out to the community.

Companies should check up on their business purchases, and WorkSafe Victoria says the best safety expenditure is on what directly protects employees and the business.
