WorkSafe Victoria warnings after nail gun incident

WORKSAFE Victoria says it is investigating an incident on 8 August 2009 when a young worker was shot by a nail gun.

According to WorkSafe Victoria, this incident at Balliang, west of Melbourne, is the fourth serious incident in the construction industry in less than two weeks.

WorkSafe says the construction industry and employers of young people should take note. The authority’s statistics show that around 800 people under 20 suffer serious injuries at work every year and make a workers’ compensation claim.

WorkSafe says young workers are at the greatest risk in any workplace, due to their enthusiasm, and risk-taking.

According to the workplace safety authority, young workers should ask, and be encouraged to ask, questions if they are unsure about what to do.
