Taken ten at ten to think safety

AS PART of the Safe Work Australia Week from 19 to 25 October 2008, WorkCover NSW is encouraging workers and employers to take ten minutes at 10am each day to reflect on occupational health and safety.

Dubbed “10 @ 10”, the initiative is said to promote the importance of safety and the benefits of implementing workplace health and safety programs.

According to the authority, a safe and healthy workplace can have positive impacts on morale, health and productivity.

On 21 October, WorkCover held a morning tea event at Palm Grove, Darling Harbour, along with ergonomics and manual handling demonstrations. Paralympian runner Heath Francis also talked about the impact of his workplace injury.

Heath had his right arm amputated below the elbow after it was caught in a meat miner on the family farm.

The authority also launched a portable trailer resource centre which will be used to deliver safety advice directly to businesses and events across NSW.
