Sharpe brothers named ambassadors for Safe Work Australia Week

THE MANAGING directors of civil contracting and road maintenance business Sharpe Bros have been named Ambassadors for Safe Work Australia Week.

Brothers Michael, Richard and Hayden Sharpe are calling on the construction industry to join the fight against workplace death and injury from 25 to 31 October 2009.

According to Michael Sharpe, safety is paramount in the construction industry, which has one of the highest rates of injuries. He urged businesses of all sizes across all industries to rethink their safety values.

To help promote safety in the construction industry, Sharpe Bros will be holding its annual Roadworkers Art Prize at the Gosford Regional Gallery to coincide with Safe Work Australia Week.

The Sharpe brothers say the event will remind staff of the importance of rest and recreation, and instil a sense of community and enjoyment. All these factors play an important role in maintaining safety in the workplace.

Sharpe Bros won the 2007 WorkCover Award and the National Safe Work Award for Small Business for its workplace safety program. The program uses a cartoon character called Safety Bro to promote OHS around Sharpe Bros worksites.

In commemoration of Safe Work Australia Week, the company will colour the normally-green Safety Bro character yellow, with a special edition vest, hat and sign.
