Safety Council to research workplace asbestos

THE AUSTRALIAN Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) will research the workplace management of in-situ asbestos.

According to the council, it will look into issues to do with compliance, compliance barriers and asbestos exposure.

This move comes after workers’ compensation reports indicated asbestos was driving a jump in claims from respiratory diseases.

The council will also enhance the Australian Mesothelioma Register to improve the management of asbestos-related risks and diseases, and publish asbestos-related literature on its website.
