Safe Work Australia releases new reports on workplace fatalities

SAFE Work Australia has published two new reports on workplace fatalities which are available for viewing on its website.

The Notified Fatalities Statistical Report 2008-09 provides an analysis of data on work-related fatalities between 1 July 2008 and 30 June 2009 which were notified to OHS jurisdictions under their OHS legislation.

The Work-related Traumatic Injury Fatalities, Australia 2006-07 is the fourth in a series which estimates the number of workers and bystanders killed each year due to work related injury. Safe Work Australia says it examines three datasets containing relevant, but not comprehensive information.

According to Work Safe Australia, there is no single national data collection system which identifies all work-related injury fatalities. The exact number of people who die in any year as a result of work-related injuries in Australia is currently impossible to establish.
