SAFEWORK SA has provided more details on the two South Australian winners of the National Safe Work Australia Awards.

According to SafeWork SA, ETSA Utilities and Viki Coad of Katnook Estate Winery won their respective categories at the 2008 Safe Work Australia Awards, after having earned their places in the national awards by winning 2008’s South Australian Safe Work Awards.

ETSA Utilities won the category of Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System for its ‘Dare to Dream Initiative’.

The ETSA Utilities ‘Dare to Dream Initiative’ was a safety campaign series targeting its entire workforce in order to achieve a workplace with zero lost time injuries. The safety system led to reductions in compensation claims, and the system has been adopted by other organisations in Australia.

Viki Coad was honoured for the Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety for her efforts in introducing various safety procedures and tools at Katnook Estate Winery.

Coad introduced a system of reviewing Standard Operating Procedures, instigated weekly OHS staff meetings and developed tools to monitor, record and track progress on all hazard and incident reports.

Her efforts significantly reduced injury-related incidents across the organisation by 29% in 2007 to 2008.
