DEPUTY Prime Minister Julia Gillard has appointed Paul O’Connor as new CEO of Comcare, effective 1 September 2009.
Paul O’Connor was previously CEO of Victoria’s Transport Accident commission. He has also had experience in safety promotion, risk management, insurance and accident compensation in Australia, the United States and Asia.
The Comcare CEO tenure is a five-year appointment. O’Connor says he is looking forward to tackling the challenges facing Comcare and ensuring the quality of its regulation and service delivery.
O’Connor says he will be prioritising the timely and smooth implementation of the model national OHS legislation. Comcare will also innovate to adopt best practice care and support for injured workers in their return to health, work and independence.
The new CEO will have a keynote address at Comcare’s National Conference on 23 September 2009, encouraging the community to think differently about working together to make workplaces safer.
