THE HUMAN Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA) is holding a national workshop themed ‘Get Real About Stress’.
The ‘Get Real About Stress’ workshop will be held on 20 August 2009 at the University of Wollongong, NSW.
The workshop will feature David Brown, a HFESA Fellow Consultant in Ergonomics and Occupational Psychology, and a NSW registered psychologist.
Stress at a job can be caused by too many unfinished tasks, interruptions and frustration at complex tasks, unclear tasks, and too short a response time.
According to the HFESA, attendees will debunk confusing terms like the ‘fight and flight syndrome’, and learn the TUDA model of stress, involving the Tired, Upset, Disillusioned and Afraid modes.
Participants will be able to learn about and experience two different types of attention, both the tiring and the non-tiring type, and learn how to fine-tune jobs to minimise attention fatigue.
Other learning outcomes include understanding how to treat bad feelings, interview methods for helping a distressed worker, and the role of disillusionment and lost values.
Workshop guests will receive a complimentary copy of Brown’s book ‘The Pocket Stress Manager’.
