WORKSAFE Victoria will be conducting a free safety skin check at the Melville Oval grandstand at Hamilton on 3 April 2008, in an effort to target the health of outdoor workers in Western Victoria.

WorkSafe will be hosting the checks in partnership with the Hamilton Trade Safety Group.

According to the authority, tradespeople, farmers and council workers were at the highest risk of skin cancers. It claims melanoma is the fourth most common cause of cancer, with more than 2300 Victorians diagnosed in 2005.

The screening will provide the information needed for workers to take action to protect themselves.

The authority urged workers to refer to the Sun Protection section of the WorkSafe website.
