TWO companies have been fined a total of $360,000, while a crane supervisor was fined $18,000 for the death of a trainee rigger at a Sydney construction site.

Mark Gallace had been working on a crane platform at the site in 2005 when he became trapped between a steel beam and the platform.

His safety harness had not been attached, so when the crane supervisor lowered the platform, the rigger fell six metres. He succumbed to asphyxia and head injuries.

Kaydee Engineering and Sacco Builders were fined $180,000 each for breaching safety, supervision and training laws. James Cunningham, the crane supervisor, was fined $18,000.
