Fatality at BHP Billiton’s Cannington mine

BHP Billiton reports that a fatality occurred at its Cannington operation in north-west Queensland at 11am on the 17th of January 2008.

The Cannington mine is a silver, lead and zinc operation.

The incident happened underground, and mining operations have been terminated. The workers are being briefed.

BHP Billiton has said it is currently assisting the deceased worker’s family and its mining personnel, and counselling has been offered.
