Construction worker killed in Victoria after being hit with concrete pump hose

A CONSTRUCTION worker died on 15 October 2009 after being struck on the head by a concrete pump hose at the former Pentridge Prison at Coburg, Victoria.

WorkSafe Victoria pointed out the fatality occurred on the anniversary of the West Gate Bridge collapse, which killed 35 and injured many workers.

The 46-year-old worker was smoothing concrete when a concrete pump slipped sidewards due to supports sinking into the ground. WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the incident.

This fatality is the fourth Victoria work-related death in nine days.

WorkSafe has again called on employers and workers to review their safety practices and ensure they meet contemporary standards.
