COMCARE has issued a safety alert to all Australian companies regarding the Swine Influenza A (H1N1) strain.

According to Comcare, companies should consider reviewing and implementing flu pandemic preparedness plans to prepare for a potential Swine Influenza outbreak.

Companies which do not have flu pandemic preparedness plans should immediately develop one using the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s publication ‘Pandemic Planning in the Workplace’.

Comcar also recommends taking the usual risk management steps in regards to the Swine Flu. This involves identifying any potential hazards, assessing the risks, and implementing appropriate control measures such as personal protection equipment or changing work arrangements.

Employers should continuously inform their workers of the potential risks from Swine Influenza, and stay updated on the situation.
