An 11-year-old boy has died in a tragic quad-bike accident in Victoria, Nurmurkah.
The boy fell off the quad bike and suffered multiple injuries, then went into cardiac arrest, and died at the scene.
WorkSafe spokesman Michael Birt told the Age despite the laws requiring people to use a helmet while working, many did not.
''Helmets are required when using quad-bikes in a farm environment, and they make really good sense if you are riding recreationally because they can make an enormous difference.''
The case is under investigation by WorkSafe.
Quad bikes are widely used by councils and government agencies to carry equipment such as sprayers and tools, or pull trailers.
After growing concerns over quad bikes safety, Australasia’s work heath and safety regulators introduced new guidelines tools to assist farmers in reducing injuries in September.
Quad-bikes have caused two work-related deaths so far in Victoria this year.
