Bovis more vigilant about safety

A CONTINUING inquest into Bovis Lend Lease was told the construction company tightened its safety policies after a fatality at a work site two years ago.

The ACT Coroners Court holding the inquest heard evidence from witnesses of the July 2006 incident.

Nicolo Spasovski, employed by Belconnen Concrete, was working on a contract project from Bovis Lend Lease when he fell through a hole in a slab floor at the taxation office building site in Civic. He died as a result of the fall.

According to an employee from the construction company, the hole had been covered, but contrary to company policy, there were no warning signs.

None of the witnesses knew who had removed the cover, but insisted the company had become more vigilant since the accident.
