Boost for Comcare’s court enforcement capabilities under Federal Budget

THE 2010 to 2011 Federal Budget has revealed a financial boost for Comcare’s court enforcement capabilities, but the controversial ABCC will remain as it is.

Under the latest budget, the Federal Government has allocated $4.4m over five years in order to boost Comcare’s court enforcement action under the Commonwealth Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991.

While there is legislation currently before the Senate for abolishing the ABCC, replacing it with a new Office of the Fair Work Building Industry Inspectorate, the budget shows the ABCC continuing to operate.
