ACTU urges government to stop Ceiling Insulation Stimulus Scheme

THE ACTU says the Federal Government should stop the Ceiling Insulation Stimulus Scheme until major improvements are made to its safety, training and licensing standards.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) says it is concerned businesses that have entered the industry to take advantage of the Federal Government scheme are cutting corners with safety and training.

According to the ACTU, the call follows the recent deaths of three workers, two by electrocution and one by heat stress.

The Ceiling Insulation Stimulus Scheme, which funds the insulation of homes, is due to run until 2011.
