With just three months until the new work health and safety legislation comes into effect, it has received yet another blow but this time with Victorian Assistant Treasurer Gordon Rich-Phillips calling for a year-long delay, reported in the Australian.
He told the Australian too little information had been provided to enable the reforms to be put in place by the start of next year.
The state reportedly supports harmonisation, but has emphasised it needs to be able to assess the benefits and costs to Victoria, and could not do so until a state-specific regulatory impact statement was done.
This comes after unions accused Western Australia Government of ‘stalling’ to avoid OHS harmonisation.
The laws are being written by Safe Work Australia, which has just called upon public comment in a bid to support the legislation.
